In past, most investors like to invest in property as part of their portfolio. Investor invest property for two things, value appreciation and rental income. Today as investing vehicle is getting more and more, investor can consider about Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT). Investor invest in REIT for two things also, value appreciation and dividend income. Isn’t that quite alike as property investment? REIT started in Malaysia in 2005 with Axis REIT being the first REIT listed in Malaysia. REITs in Malaysia was overlook by investor due to its low volatility. However, REITs is gaining popular now and in the future. To date, there are 11 REITs listed in Bursa Malaysia with the total market capital of US1.43 billion.
REIT or Real Estate Investment Trust is a trust which invest in properties. REIT have been started in Malaysia as early as 2005 with Axis REIT being the first REIT listed on Bursa Malaysia.
Why REIT? In a life time, personally, we cannot afford to buy skyscraper office building. However, with REIT we can buy a share of skyscraper office building. REIT enable to us to invest in strategic and expensive property indirectly and without much management. Isn’t it solving our dilemma for investing in other type of property besides residential and retail property?
