Financial Freedom

Secret To Financial Freedom

#1 Financial Freedom Through Reading

By reading, we gain a lot of knowledge and wisdoms. Most of the people after leaving the secondary school, they stop reading. They stop learning new things or slow down their speed of leaning new things. Their learning process are limited to their daily works. That is the biggest corner stone for one to improve themselves and become successful.

For my opinion, reading is the most important secret to become financial freedom. If one stop reading one day, his wisdom stop accumulating start from that day. If you have stop reading for 5 years, it means you are still live in a passed 5 years. We need to read to accumulate new knowledge and expand our wisdom.

Recently, I got to know a guy who worked as teacher in secondary school. However, his intention to do his own business had forced him to resign. After that, he had spent one year giving tuition in his own house. After that year, he opened a tuition centre which specialize in giving tuition on Bahasa Melayu only. His unique had made him famous in the town. Hundred of students flooded to his tuition school because he is specialist, just as specialist doctor. He had created a tuition system that help him make lots of money.

I had a short conversation with him. We talk about school time, career, place, life and hobby. Both of us have quite alike thinking and opinion. During the conversation, one thing that he told really surprised me. He read a lot of books. He can finish one thick paperback in one day. He keep on accumulating knowledge everyday. He learned that he need to get out of rat race and achieve financial freedom. Now, he is on the bandwagon of financial freedom.

I feel shame   of just read one book per month compare to him which reads several books in a month. However, after reading, implementation is also crucial things that cannot be neglected.

  1. I like to read. I gain most of my financial knowledge from books and I am still doing it. Books from many financial gurus able to tell us all of their financial views and action plans to achieve financial freedom. However, do not follow blindly. What suit them does not necessary suit you. We have to digest the essence of their knowledge and adjust them to suit our context.

I would like to comment on “Most of the people after leaving the secondary school, they stop reading.” Students are forced to read. Teachers and parents used their authority to force their students and children to read. That is wrong. They should be ‘encouraged’ to read (and write) then only they love to read. My father encouraged me to read (when I was small) by buying me a story book once I finished reading one. So, I keep on reading books & gradually I become an active reader. He also setup a library for us and stuffed it with books, fiction and non-fiction. I read almost any beneficial thing.

If parents cannot afford to buy book, what they can do is to bring their children to public libraries. They can borrow books to bring home. As soon as the children finished reading, they can revisit the library and bring home other books. And do not forget to praise the kids for reading. Kids love attention and praises (and gifts). If you do these, your kids will turn into an active readers. Poverty (or lack of $) shouldn’t be an excuse to discourage children to read, it should be a reason to encourage children to read.
