REIT started in Malaysia in 2005 with Axis REIT being the first REIT listed in Malaysia. REITs in Malaysia was overlook by investor due to its low volatility. However, REITs is gaining popular now and in the future. To date, there are 11 REITs listed in Bursa Malaysia with the total market capital of US1.43 billion.
| REIT | Stock Quote | Types of property |
| UOA | UOAREIT | Office |
| AmFirst | AMFIRST | Office/Hotel/Retail |
| Hektar | HEKTAR | Retail |
| Atrium | ATRIUM | Industrial |
| Axis | AXREIT | Diversified |

Another 2 REITs will be listed on Bursa Malaysia next year, Suncity and CapitaLand. Suncity will launch RM3.7 billion REIT which include Sunway Pyramid, Sunway Carnival, Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel and the Pyramid Tower, Menara Sunway, Monash University and some other properties recently acquired.
CapitaLand’s REIT, with an initial asset size of RM2 billion, was targeted to be the country’s first foreign-sponsored REIT on Bursa. The company had intended to inject its three shopping malls in Malaysia, Gurney Plaza in Penang, the Mines Shopping Fair in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, and Sungei Wang Plaza in Kuala Lumpur into the REIT.
For now, I prefer Amfirst, Quill and Stareit. Most probably because of their types of property and the price is within my target. However, still need to do more research on it. CapitaLand and Suncity are also my favorites.

I’m most interested in REITS. Where do I go to buy REITS?
Thanks.

You can buy REITs from Bursa Malaysia just as how you buy your stock through brokerage firm.

Everything will be exactly the same as normal stocks? the brokerage fees of buying/selling also the same?
What are the difference between buying REITs comparing to normal stocks? I mean in terms of buying, selling, dividends, tax, etc?

There are no different at all for buying, selling and dividends. Withholding tax is 10%.
